Summer safety
Walk your dog before 9am or after 8pm
Valley pavement can hit 140°F on a 100°F afternoon and burn paw pads in under a minute. Press the back of your hand to the concrete for seven seconds — if you can't hold it, neither can your dog.
Hydration
Refill outdoor water bowls twice a day
Standing water heats fast and grows algae in RGV humidity. Use a shaded, light-colored bowl, rinse it daily and add a second bowl near the back door so your dog never has to cross hot ground for a drink.
